This is my ultimate favorite meat sauce that I make. The first time this turned out perfect…. by perfect, I mean no adjusting of ingredients… was recently so I thought I would share. When my husband took a bite of the sauce in the pot… his eyes lit up and he just smiled at me. That’s how I knew…. this is my favorite sauce!
Ingredients:
- 4 Sweet Italian Turkey Sausages – casings removed
- 2 Hot Turkey Sausages – casings removed
- 1 Large Onion – diced
- 2 Large Carrots – grated
- 4 Large Garlic Cloves – minced
- 1 – 28oz Can Crushed Tomatoes
- 1 – 14.5oz Can Fire Roasted Diced Tomatoes
- 1 – 8oz Can Tomato Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Sundried Tomato Paste
- 1 Tbsp Dried Italian Herbs
- 1 Tbsp Dried Oregano
- 2 Bay Leaves
- 2 Tbsp Olive Oil
- Salt and Pepper to Taste
Directions:
- In a large dutch oven or sauce pan over medium high heat, add Olive Oil and heat until hot.
- Add onions and carrots and sauté until onions are translucent.
- Add garlic and sauté for 30 seconds.
- Add Sundried Tomato Paste and cook until it turns a rusty red/brown color – about 2 minutes.
- Move mixture to the sides of the pot so the center is mostly cleared. Add a little olive oil to the center and place sausage in.
- Break up sausage with a meat pounder and cook until browned. When sausage is cooked, mix vegetables and meat together.
- Stir in Tomato Sauce, Diced Tomatoes and Tomato sauce.
- Add dried Italian herbs and bay leaves.
- Salt and Pepper to taste.
- Bring to a boil and simmer for at least 30 minutes. The longer it simmers, the better it tastes.
